JOB GOAL

The principal is the administrative head of the individual school and is responsible directly to the superintendent for the efficient and effective operation of the instructional program within the established policies of the Governing Board. In assuming the leadership role, the principal must accept responsibility for the following major tasks:

  • Instructional leadership and curriculum improvement
  • Personnel administration and supervision
  • Effective and safe management procedures and operation
  • School-community relations

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES shall include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Supervise the school’s total educational program
  • Supervise the instructional staff in the development and implementation of curriculum and student activities
  • Supervise, monitor and/or promote the special educational and guidance program to enhance individual student education and development
  • Supervise the school staff, both certified and classified, providing assistance and conducting evaluations, as necessary
  • Assist in the in-service orientation and training of teachers and other staff members
  • Assist in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning and evaluation of the school’s professional staff
  • Establish and maintain favorable relationships with the public to promote understanding and solicit support for the District
  • Maintain active relationships with students and parents
  • Promote, monitor, and attend special events held to recognize student achievement, and attend school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events
  • Assume responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases
  • Prepare and administer the school budget and supervise school finances
  • Maintain and control the various local funds generated by student activities
  • Supervise the maintenance of all building records and reports required by law and the Governing Board, including attendance reports for students
  • Administer the general policies and programs of the school system, making available to the staff all school board regulations enacted by the Governing Board or superintendent
  • Coordinate or supervise such support service as transportation, maintenance, security, food services, recreational programs, financial and accounting functions and library activities
  • Report to appropriate central office administrators regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, equipment, supplies, and curriculum
  • Maintain proper inventory of capital and instructional supplies at the building level
  • Approve the master teaching schedule and any special assignment
  • Implement and maintain District guidelines for proper student conduct and discipline, according to due process rights of the students
  • Participate in District level meetings and committees
  • Keep abreast of changes and developments in the profession and encourage other staff members to do the same
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent
